Thanks for the memories Crow.

Something had to happen after the Canucks’ disappointing finish to this year’s hockey season. In a year where the league was re-envigorated by rule changes and a more equitable distribution of talent, the Canucks stumbled painfully in the final months and missed the playoffs for the first time in a long time.

So it’s not suprising that the Canucks axed head coach Marc Crawford yesterday. I like Marc Crawford, he seems to be a genuinely talented head coach and an all around good guy. I met him briefly while working at the 1998 All-Star Game in Vancouver, and he was very courteous and friendly – even to a peon like me.

But, that said, it’s obvious that the Canucks needed a boot in the ass to rouse them out of their slumber. Maybe a fresh face behind the bench next year will do just that.

In the meantime, thanks for the memories Crow. It’s been a fun ride. Good luck in Toronto.
